MODULES FOR INFUSION INTO HEALTH SPECIALIZATION COURSES The modules are designed to be flexible, intended to support already existing course content. Each module has objectives; suggested assignments, handouts and organizational resources. Some modules may have contents unique to that module, i.e. glossary of terms, or full text of a pivotal article. An instructor might decide to achieve all the course objectives, or just one, to select just one reading, or assign several; to have all students do one exercise, or offer students a choice; to spend five minutes on a module, or a full class session (or more). Dr. Julianne Oktay served as the chief author of modules included in series I and II. These modules have been crafted with the help of numerous graduate assistants and fellows. For example, Donna Bliss, MCH Pre-doctoral fellow, 2003-2005, was a major contributor to both the Tobacco and Childhood Asthma modules found within the second series. Additionally, Otima Doyle, MCH Pre-doctoral fellow, 2005-2007, was a major contributor to the Childhood Obesity module, which will be located within the third series of the module. In the fall of 2006, Dr. Melissa Bellin of the University of Maryland School of Social Work, became the chief author of the modules. Drawing on her experience as a graduate of a Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) program and her program of research on child and family adaptation to disability, Dr. Bellin, in consultation with a Module Advisory Committee composed of leading health social work educators and parents of children with developmental disabilities, is presently developing a new series of curriculum modules to enhance Social Work Practice in Developmental Disabilities. The first module, Autism Spectrum Disorders, is in the final stages of preparation and will be tested by social work educators 2008-2009.
