| Maternal and Child Health Post-Graduate Leadership Academy About the Leadership Academy | Who We Are Looking For | What We Offer You Your Cost | Time Line | Application Process | For More Information | About the Leadership Academy The Maternal and Child Health Post-Graduate Leadership Academy is a collaboration between the University of Maryland Baltimore School of Social Work’s Center for Maternal and Child Health Social Work Training and the University of Georgia School of Social Work. The purpose of the Leadership Academy is to provide social workers in maternal and child health the opportunity to enhance their leadership and management skills so that they can assume leadership roles in their agencies and the maternal and child health field as a whole. |
 | Who We Are Looking For We are looking for social workers with at least two years of post-MSW practice experience who are currently employed in maternal and child health settings and are interested in advancing their leadership and management potential. Participants need to be motivated to assume leadership roles in maternal and child health. |
 | What We Offer You The three selected social workers will participate in a one-year, grant-funded, comprehensive leadership and management development experience that consists of two immersion retreats (one in Maryland and one in Georgia), online support, peer supervision, and expert consultation that will promote your leadership and management skills. The limited number of social workers selected to participate each year ensures that you will receive personalized attention and support. Our philosophy is that leadership and management development occurs not only by attending workshops and reading, but by applying what is learned in classroom settings to real life situations. We provide participants who consider leadership and management development as a life-long learning process characterized by a willingness to stretch their comfort zones by taking risks, a foundation for developing their leadership and management roles within their home agency and the field of maternal and child health. During the one-year program participants will: - Attend two immersion retreats (one in Maryland and one in Georgia) that focus on the concepts related to leadership and management development, managing task-oriented groups, and addressing agency needs,
- Read and discuss concepts from four books related to leadership and management,
- Contribute to a website/blog about leadership issues in maternal and child health,
- Participate in bi-weekly telephone/video conference calls with other participants and the Leadership Academy director,
- Develop an individual leadership/management project that addresses a specific need of the agency, and
- Create a collaborative continuing education project with other Leadership Academy participants that addresses an emerging area in maternal and child health.
