Jerica Randolph

Jerica began her master’s program in May 2009 at the University of Maryland, Baltimore as an advanced standing student. She has a clinical concentration with a health specialization and a sub-specialization in child, adolescent, family health. She will be completing her field placement at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore as a social work intern in the neonatal intensive care and obstetrics unit. Here, she serves a diverse population of clients as they face the challenge of having an infant in intensive care. Ms. Randolph works with families adjusting to hospitalization, assists with discharge planning, and facilitates communication between clients and medical personnel.

Jerica graduated with honors from Hood College in Frederick, MD in May 2009 with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work. There she was an active participant of the Phi Alpha Social Work Honor Society, member of the Student Social Work Organization and community service club on campus. During her senior year she interned with a school and community based agency in the Frederick County Public School system. She facilitated interagency collaboration among school administration, agencies and families. Jerica provided family focused case management to families of children in the school system through home and school visits, and offered small group counseling in the schools for social skills and changing families.

Jerica also completed an independent study on adolescent motherhood and high school re-entry. She explored how one mother fared academically and emotionally, as well as school administrations opinions which yielded similarities and differences in the areas of time, feelings, support systems and motherhood. This study led to many implications for social work practice, policy and research.

Upon graduation, Jerica plans to work in the health field with pregnant and adolescent mothers on making healthy choices for themselves and their children.
