| Otima Z. Doyle is a 3rd year doctoral student at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. She is the pre-doctoral fellow for the Maternal and Child Health Leadership Program at the University. Prior to earning her MSW, Otima graduated from Towson University with a double major in psychology and sociology. Experience in the field began at this time with a volunteer experience and subsequently an internship at a residential treatment center for females in Baltimore City. Determined to begin a career in social work, Otima went on to earn her Master’s degree from the University of Chicago where she had a clinical concentration as well as a specialization in school social work. Experience during her master’s program involved clinical work both within an in-patient mental health setting and an inner city school in Chicago. She also has experience working with chronically mentally ill, deaf adults in the community setting. Currently, Otima is an LCSW-C, who has 4.5 years of post master’s experience working primarily in a residential setting at the Woodbourne Center in Baltimore, MD. She served in a variety of roles during her tenure at Woodbourne ranging from therapist to program manager of a number of programs within the Woodbourne Continuum. These roles have provided the opportunity to work directly with both emotionally and behaviorally challenged adolescents and their families, as well as with a multidisciplinary staff who serve these adolescents and their families. In addition, this experience has fostered the development of management and coordination skills associated with being responsible for both clinical and administrative staff. Otima’s current areas of interest include children, adolescents and families, vulnerable populations, the convergence of race, class, and economics and mental health. Dissertation research interest includes the exploration of the impact of African American fathers on their childrens’ well-being. top . |
