Julie Parent

Julie Parent

Julie began her master’s program in June 2007 at the University of Maryland, Baltimore as an advanced standing student in social work. She has a clinical concentration with a health specialization and sub-specialization in child, adolescent, family health. She will begin her field placement at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC in September 2007.

Julie has three years of clinical experience working with teens and young adults affected or infected with HIV/AIDS. Prior to immigrating to the United States, Julie worked on an action oriented research study on the issue of Food Insecurity in low income urban areas in Montreal, Canada. Julie’s other social work experiences include a BSW field placement at Oxfam Quebec in 2001, a non-profit organization, where she led a public education and community development campaign. Julie also worked as a counselor with newly arrived young immigrants.

While completing her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work at the University of Montreal, Julie spent one year volunteering with the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary in Madagascar. Julie greatly enjoyed her experience in Africa and hopes to return to Africa eventually and continue to provide social services to children and their family.
