Tiffany Pertillar

Tiffany Pertillar is a 3rd year dual degree candidate at the University of Maryland Baltimore, pursuing a Masters Degrees in both Social Work and Public Health.  Pursuing both fields of Social Work and Public Health has allowed her to integrate the individual core values, ethical principles, theoretical frameworks, and practical skills that each field possesses into a unique foundation that will successfully impact her work upon graduation from the University of Maryland in May 2008.

Tiffany has a deep passion for women and children, and has gained invaluable experience working with this particular population over the last eight years, including her first field placement at the Prince George’s County Department of Social Services’ Child Advocacy Center.  Because of her interest in policy, Tiffany is currently interning at the Maternal Child Health Bureau, a branch of the Health Resources and Services Administration within the US Federal Government.  Specifically, she works in the Division of Healthy Start and Perinatal Services.

In addition, because of Tiffany’s interest in research and public policy, she is also working within a multi-disciplinary team that is conducting research on the impact of health literacy on the oral health of individuals in various Baltimore communities. Upon graduation, she plans to continue gaining practical experience in the field of Maternal Child Health as well as continue working on multi-disciplinary research teams. Through her research and commitment to gaining knowledge on a wide variety of Maternal Child Health issues, she hopes to have a positive impact on the public policy that affects women and children all over the world.
