 Maternal and Child Health Pre-Doctoral Fellow

The Project Director awards one pre-doctoral fellowship for every two year period of the grant.  This competitive fellowship is awarded to a Ph.D. student who is specializing in Child, Youth, and Maternal Health.  This fellowship provides the fellow with a stipend to help defray living expenses, in-state tuition, plus health insurance.  The fellow is expected to work twenty hours per week during the academic year.  The fellow functions as junior faculty while developing clinical skills in MCH practice, teaching MCH content and crafting an MCH research agenda. Fellows have the following responsibilities:

  • Research and Teaching Practicum: Fellows develop and implement a research practicum for MSW students consistent with their dissertation interest.  Additionally, they co-teach an MCH practice class and a research practicum class;  
  • Supervise MSW student trainees:  Fellows are responsible for the direct supervision of 12 MSW students over the two year period (six per year).  The MSW students participate in a year long, innovative, leadership development project that is crafted by the fellow.
  • Dissertation:  Each fellow selects an MCH dissertation topic and submits a grant  for dissertation support.
  • Curriculum Module Development:  The fellow also has the potential to be a major contributor in the development of nationally distributed curriculum modules (ex. childhood obesity). 

The fellow must have good conceptual abilities; be well organized, good at detail and follow through; possess superior writing skills; be computer literate and have good interpersonal skills.  Persons interested in the fellowship should indicate their interest by contacting the project director, Dr. Edward Pecukonis via email.
